There are different reasons why the people in our class are studying English at the moment. Behind the question “which is your main motivation to study English?” our classmates tried to explain it in a few lines.
Most of people use the word "again" because they had already studied English some time ago: "I started to study English again because I want to improve it and to learn more."
Work is another important incentive: "I need it for my work", "I'm out of work and I want to learn a new language for my new job" "I want to find a good job even abroad", "I'm a teacher and I would like to prepare for a public exam. That is why I need to pass B1 and B2. "...having a certificate gives me points in public exams", "...where I work it’s necessary to read and speak English, if you don't, you are lost"
We are a miscellaneous group with students of different ages, and some of them think: "I started to study English when I retired because I need to do an activity now and I am very happy with my classmates and my teacher", “I need to spend my free time doing something which I like"
To travel and meet other cultures are reasons especially mentioned: "...I love travelling around the world and I think that if I’d like to speak English with everybody wherever I go" "I would like to travel around the world and to be able to understand people from other countries", "...it's an interesting language and I’d like to speak with some English people", "I started studying English again because you can go everywhere with this language. Even if you are in France or China, people can understand you", "...I want to watch films and TV series in their original version", "...the possibility to understand films and read books by English writers"
Other views also show personal stimuli: "...for me it's a challenge because when I was a younger I studied French and I was very bad at languages", "...to feel better with myself because to know English is common right now", "...it's my personal target. I want to understand when English people speak to me. I want to speak fluently""...I’d like to understand English people and to make my brain work", "My reason to start studying English three years ago, was that I needed to understand my daughters’s teachers and to speak to them in English", "I'm learning English because I made a promise with my two daughters and I won it"
Finally there are people who don't have a definite motivation: "My reason to take English again is not absolutely clear. It's simply that I like to speak this language. I haven't got a very important reason. I love it. That's all!!".
